Maddy takes speed record
Records tumbled in yesterday's AXA Equity & Law League match at Chester-le-Street as Leicestershire beat a dreadful Durham side by 130 runs. They cashed in on Durham's prevailing depression by amassing the second-highest total in the history of the 40-over competition.
Their 344 for 4 was 19 short of Somerset's total at Neath six years ago and included the fastest Sunday century of the season, Darren Maddy reaching the target off 54 balls. Melvyn Betts recorded Durham's worst Sunday figures, taking 0 for 79, despite bowling only six overs.
Phil Simmons set the tempo with 115 off 95 balls, hitting 17 fours before being caught at long off in the 29th over. Aftab Habib contributed an unbeaten 50 off 31 balls as 132 came off the last 10 overs, while Maddy's first Sunday century included 16 fours and he hit one more in finishing on 106 not out.
