International Management Group have bid in excess of $1bn for the television rights to the World Cup in 2002 in Japan and South Korea, writes Paul Trow. The bid, forwarded last week to Fifa's general secretary, Sepp Blatter, came to light during an interview with IMG's chairman and chief executive, Mark McCormack, by David Mellor for Radio Five Live's Moguls, to be broadcast on Tuesday. "We've become involved with Fifa and we could do a tremendous job for the World Cup. Whether we get our chance is going to depend on a lot of factors," McCormack said. McCormack, who is the main marketing force behind Wimbledon and the Open, also revealed he was keen to become involved with the International Amateur Athletics Federation.
