Chesterfield's Chris Mellors, driving a Ford Sierra Cosworth, won the Artemis Equipment Forest Stages rally in North Yorkshire by just 17b seconds to snatch the six-round series from Aberdeen's season-long leader David Gillanders, writes Keith McGhie. Last season's winner, Dougie Watson-Clark, from Carlisle, rolled his escort spectacularly out of the rally on the second stage, escaping unhurt before the car burst into flames.
