The Italian Grand Prix is to be held at Monza at least until 2007 despite opposition from environmentalists, whose campaign against the cutting down of trees to extend the racetrack's safety zone jeopardized the race in 1994 and 1995.

Jacques Villeneuve broke the track record in Estoril, Portugal yesterday when he lapped in 1min 18.36sec in his Williams-Renault.
