Burns gears up for Argentina victory after flywheel fiasco

Richard Burns, the World Championship leader, aims to make up for last year's disappointment by winning the Rally of Argentina on Sunday. The Briton, who leads his Peugeot team-mate and the defending champion, Marcus Gronholm, by six points, thought he had won the event last year but was disqualified because his car had an underweight flywheel.

Burns has been busy testing in Greece and hopes his efforts will pay dividends as he is still looking for his first win since joining Peugeot.

Gronholm is planning to build on his victory in New Zealand, where Burns finished second. Gronholm was also disqualified in Argentina last year after his team engineers encroached within the one-kilometre exclusion zone.

Citroën faltered in New Zealand but Britain's Colin McRae and Spain's Carlos Sainz, both former world champions, have won the event, which starts today, three times. Sainz won last year for Ford, after McRae triumphed in 2001, and Ford are chasing a hat-trick with the Estonian Markko Martin in their new Focus.

The rally route has changed again this year. A more compact event has 25 stages covering 1,379 kilometres (866 miles).
