Isle of Man TT 2015 results: Hat-trick hero Ian Hutchinson makes it a Supersport double

Hutchinson secures his third straight victory ahead of Friday blue ribbon Senior TT

Ian Hutchinson completed an incredible hat-trick of victories at the 2015 Isle of Man TT after taking the spoils in the Monster Energy Supersport second race.

The 35-year-old came into Wednesday's race as the slight favourite, having already won the first Supersport race of the week as well as the superstock race on Tuesday.

Bruce Anstey once again provided the biggest challenge to Hutchinson, with the New Zealander quickly making second his own and keeping the leader honest throughout.

After getting away in fourth on the opening lap, Guy Martin put this week's disappointments behind him to overhaul Gary Johnson and secure third position.

Hutchinson, however, established an early lead that saw him pull out a seven second gap at the halfway stage of the race as the field headed towards the pits.

The leading trio managed to negotiate the pit lane without drama, though Hutchinson arrived at a rate of knots on the Team Traction Control Yamaha - owned by Prodigy star Keith Flint - that saw him only just make the pit lane speed limit.

Hutchinson continued to lead the way on lap three and managed to extend the lead to more than eight seconds, and despite Anstey closing the gap on the final circuit to as little as five seconds, Hutchinson put in an incredible run over the mountain to take a third victory of the week by 14.820 seconds.

Anstey held on for second aboard the Padgetts Honda, while Martin got his first podium of the week on the Smiths Triumph despite a late charge by James Hillier, who continues to impress this week on the Quattro Plant Muc-Off Kawasaki.

Earlier in the day, John McGuinness rode the Mugen to his 22nd victory at the Isle of Man after posting a record 119.279 lap on the electric bike using Dunlop tyres to continue the rapid development of the class. McGuinness set off out in front and stayed there for the duration of the one-lap shootout, leading home Bruce Anstey on the Mugen by More than four seconds. Lee Johnston came home in third.
