Michelin signs up to Jaguar F1

Ap

French tyre-maker Michelin will supply tyres for Jaguar Racing in the 2001 Formula One season, the companies announced on Thursday.

Jaguar is the second team lined up by Michelin for next season. It was announced in December that Michelin would supply the Williams BMW.

In addition, Michelin previously announced that a new Toyota team entering in the 2002 season would also use its tyres.

The entry of Michelin marks the return of F1 tyre wars following Goodyear's departure after the 1998 season. Since then, Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone has been the lone tyre supplier for the sport.

Michelin withdrew as an F1 tyre supplier after the 1984 season with 59 race victories, three drivers' titles and two constructors' titles.
