The doubters said it could not be done and they have been proved right, with the debut of Carl Fogarty's superbike being postponed until next season.
The plan to take a bike from the drawing board to the race track in 10 months was ambitious, even with the heavyweight backing of the Malyasian oil company Petronas. The crux of the problem has been the need to build at least 75 road-going versions of the bike in order to fulfil World Superbike regulations. Developing road and race engines simultaneously has delayed both projects, and the team's intended first outing at Brands Hatch on 28 July will now only consist of demonstration laps by Troy Corser and James Haydon.
