Roared on by the home fans at Phillip Island, local hero Casey Stoner opens up an early lead on his way to winning the Australian MotoGP Grand Prix for the fourth year in succession yesterday.

Stoner had started on pole after being fastest in qualifying during Saturday's wet weather and after the first lap yesterday was already 1.5 seconds ahead of the new world champion, Jorge Lorenzo. The Australian Ducati rider eventually won by 8.59sec from Lorenzo, with Valentino Rossi in third. "Everybody was expecting the fourth win but I'm attacking this race like any other," Stoner said.
