ALFA ROMEO continued their domination of the British Touring Car Championship yesterday, winning both rounds of the series at Brands Hatch. The victorious driver in both races was Gabriele Tarquini, the Italian ex-Formula One man leading each event from pole position.
Tarquini was closely challenged in the opening stages of the first race by the new Renault Lagunas of Tim Harvey and Alain Menu, until Harvey had brake problems and Menu a puncture.
Tarquini's team-mate, Giampiero Simoni, fought back to second place by the end of the first leg, having slipped as low as sixth on the opening lap.
But Simoni's luck deserted him at the start of the second race, when he spun down the order at the first corner. However, he recovered magnificently from last to eighth by the close and set a lap record.
