West Indies 548-7 dec & 184 New Zealand 437 & 130-5 Match drawn

There were encouraging periods for both teams yesterday but they were fleeting and the second and final Test duly drifted to a draw, West Indies thus winning the series 1-0.

The West Indies spent a nervous and bizarre opening half an hour before a last-wicket partnership of 26 that occupied nine overs between Courtney Walsh and Rajindra Dhanraj eased their concerns.

New Zealand were left with the difficult task of scoring 296 off 73 overs to level the series. But when their first three wickets went for 39, only West Indies could win. However, Stephen Fleming's unbeaten 56 then enabled New Zealand to hold out.
