Britain's Nicky Gooch won a silver medal behind the Canadian Marc Gagnon who broke his own world record in the 1500 metres at the World Short Track Championships at The Hague in the Netherlands yesterday.

Japan's Manabu Horii set a world record in the 1,000m World Cup competition in Calgary with a time of 1min 11.67sec yesterday. The previous record of 1:12.37 was set two years ago at the same Olympic Oval track by Japan's Yasunori Miyabe
