St Helens are in disagreement with the Australian club, Newcastle Knights, over the Great Britain forward Chris Joynt. Saints are insisting that Joynt returns from his summer spell with Newcastle on 1 August for the start of the new season, but Newcastle want Joynt to remain and take part in the Winfield Cup play-offs.

The winger Scott Ranson and utility back Paul Topping have boosted Oldham's Super League prospects by signing deals to the end of the 1997 summer season. Forward David Bradbury has agreed a similar deal and Ian Green has signed up for the short 1995/96 season with a view to signing a Super League deal at a later date. Wakefield's former Wigan forward, Ian Gildart, is set to join the Watersheddings club for a fee of pounds 45,000.
