The South African Rugby Football Union yesterday postponed indefinitely a drugs hearing into three players because of fears the proceedings could have been unconstitutional. Rian Oberholzer, the chief executive, said in a statement that SARFU's regulations, which did not allow for legal representation at disciplinary hearings, could be in conflict with the new constitution of South Africa.

Jan Machacek, the Czech Republic international, has signed a two-year contract with Newport. The 25-year-old has scored nine tries in 22 appearances in the Welsh club's back row.
