Commissions of the Dr Martens League and the Association yesterday found Merthyr Tydfil had no grounds to dismiss Mark Aizlewood, the former Welsh defender, from his position as player-coach. Aizlewood, sacked two years ago, is to press for a cash settlement.

The former owner of Marseille, the bankrupt ex-tycoon Bernard Tapie, lost his final appeal yesterday against a bribery conviction and will have to serve the last six months of his eight-month sentence
