BRITAIN gained its second flat water canoe finalist yesterday when Andrew Train, a barrister from Worcestershire, followed in Eric Jamieson's wake in the 1,000 metres Canadian singles.
Train came within an ace of reaching two finals, when he set out on another semi-final within 90 minutes of his first. But he and his brother Stephen were too slow to reach the pairs final.
Train's time of 4min 9.94sec leaves him the slowest of the qualifiers for tomorrow's final. But the team manager, Stephen Jackson, made light of that. 'He was trying to cruise as much as possible to save something for the pairs,' he said.
