Britain's Richard Phelps hauled himself himself back into sight of a medal in the modern pentathlon yesterday. Phelps moved from 11th place to seventh overall in the individual standings after the 4,000 metre cross-country run - the fourth discipline of the event. Phelps completed the course in 13min 16.6sec, and he was followed in 17th place by Dominic Mahony in 13:21.5 and in 24th by Graham Brookhouse in 13:28.3. Their combined effort elevated Britain from 11th to eighth place in the overall team standings.
