THE Spanish are making the most of hosting the Olympics - their nine gold medals from the first 10 days more than doubles their previous total (4) from all summer Games. Perhaps the massive investment in sport since Barcelona was awarded the Games has something to do with it. The same thing happened four years ago when South Korea, who took 19 medals in 1984, increased their haul to 33. Time for a Manchester effect?
