ANOTHER British hope bites the dust. Alister Allan scored 588 out of a possible 600 in the 50 metre free rifle competition, which sounds good but left him 43rd equal out of 52 competitors.
Allan has another chance in the three-position rifle event - in which already has two Olympic medals - but this was reckoned to be his stronger suit.
At the business end, Lee Eun- chul, of South Korea, made up a one-point deficit in the final shoot-off to take the gold after tying for second on 597 in the qualifying. The bad news for Allan is that Lee was the three-position world champion in 1990 and regards that as his main event.
