One of Team GB's discus throwers gave up fizzy drinks and overeating so that he would be in the best possible shape for London 2012.

Brett Morse lost a stone by watching his diet and increasing cardiovascular exercise which has seen him throw consistent personal bests in the lead-up to the discus qualification round today.

He said: “In the Commonwealth Games in Delhi I was quite heavy, about 125kg (19st 7lbs), and not as bulky as I am now, muscle-wise. I had to lose a lot of body fat so in the last 18 months, I’ve focused on that.

“I used to be addicted to Coca-Cola, but I’ve completely shut that off. I eat enough protein and just enough carbohydrates or fat to fuel myself. I don’t overdo anything like I used to.”

Morse, from Cardiff, ranked 36th in the world, still manages six scrambled eggs for breakfast, adding porridge and sometimes coffee during competitions
