Paralympics: British duo take gold medals

CARDIFF'S Tanni Grey and Tracey Hinton have scored a notable double triumph at the Paralympics World Championships. Grey, a quadruple gold medal winner in the Barcelona Paralympics two years ago, struck Britain's first gold of the championships in Berlin in the 100 metres wheelchair event.

The double London Marathon wheelchair winner won with nearly a second to spare in a time of 17.93sec. Tracy Lewis, of London, took the bronze medal.

Hinton won gold in the 100m for B1 blind runners with a time of 13.44sec.

Silver medals went to Andrew Hodge of Southport (100m men's wheelchair), Sally Reddin of Holbeach (discus), and Janice Lawton and Clare Pearce in different classifications of the discus for cerebral palsy.

Andrew Curtis, of Bridlington, won bronze in the 100m B1 blind race.
