British boxing fans must pay a minimum of pounds 20 to see Mike Tyson's return to the ring against Peter McNeeley on 19 August. With no live television coverage in Britain for the much-awaited Las Vegas heavyweight fight, Frank Warren and the American promoter, Don King, have struck a deal to beam the fight live to more than 25 venues in the UK.
Ticket prices range from pounds 20 to pounds 30 for the transmission, which will start at midnight. It will also feature a supporting programme of four world title fights from the sold-out bill at the MGM Grand Hotel.
Barry Hearn's Matchroom organisation yesterday refused to confirm a report that Chris Eubank has split with his promoter. "Various negotations are going on and a statement will be forthcoming," a Matchroom spokesman said.
A newspaper report says that Eubank is flying to America in a bid to sign up with Don King, who will be co-promoting Eubank's World Boxing Organisation super-middleweight title rematch against Ireland's Steve Collins on 9 September.
Eubank, who took the WBO title from Nigel Benn, now wants a third meeting with him, but is likely to demand pounds 3m for it. Perhaps he sees an association with King securing him that kind of money - and enough to satisfy Benn to make it happen.
