Pearce bruised but unbroken
Lydia Pearce, the leading amateur jockey injured in a fall at Newbury an hour after Willie Carson's accident, is likely to be out of action for a fortnight. "I look a bit of a sight, with a black eye and bruising," Pearce said, "but there is nothing broken."
The trainer Robin Dickin was yesterday taken to hospital for an X-ray examination of his skull after being knocked unconscious for a couple of minutes when kicked in the head by one of his horses at his stable's open day. He was later allowed to return home.
