John Popely held off a fierce challenge from Michael Whitaker to win the Top Score event on Indy at the new Daily Mirror International Masters in Glasgow yesterday, writes Jennifer Harry. The event, in which riders have to jump as many fences as possible in 45 seconds while choosing their own route, is an examination of speed and quick reflexes, though Popely admitted afterwards that luck played a part in his victory. Nick Skelton, who set a new Scottish high jump record on Friday when he cleared a 7ft 4in wall, kept up his form when Everest Dollar Girl showed a combination of accuracy and speed to win the Lochenvar Stakes.
