Racing: Abbot in doubt

MONDAY'S Independent will carry complete racecards for all that day's meetings. Ten fixtures are scheduled but several are threatened by the weather.

At Hereford and Huntingdon the going is heavy and further rain would put those meetings in doubt. At Newton Abbot the situation is more serious as the course is unraceable due to waterlogging. An inspection is being held at 10am today.

There are no such problems at Wolverhampton where the new pounds 15.3m all-weather track will be in use for the first time. The last two races will be run under floodlights.

For the first time in more than a decade, racegoers travelling to Kempton will be able to reach the Sunbury track by train. Racecards will be on sale at London's Waterloo station to enable punters to study the runners en route.
