Golden Torque, who had finished a poor seventh of nine at Hamilton on his previous start, left that form behind when winning the Steve Nesbitt Challenge Trophy at Ripon yesterday under strong driving from apprentice Harvey Bastiman. He got the better of Kabayil, ridden by Willie Carson, by a head but Bastiman was later found guilty of excessive use of the whip by the local stewards, who suspended him from riding for two days, from 10-11 September.
