Racing: Brilliant Idea
ADRIAN MAGUIRE and Dermot Weld yesterday teamed up to take the pounds 40,000 Galway Plate, one of the centrepieces of the week-long festival at the West of Ireland course. The Curragh trainer's General Idea became the first horse to defy 12st in the race for 20 years when guided by Maguire to an impressive and popular victory as the 9-2 favourite. The lone British raider, Castle King, from Peter Hedger's yard, was unplaced.
