WILLIE CARSON, who had been linked with both My Patriarch and the heavily-backed Irish Stamp, will partner lightweight Sun Grebe for John Dunlop in Saturday's Cesarewitch at Newmarket.

A total of 36 stood their ground yesterday for the end-of-season marathon, headed by the Bob Jones-trained Jack Button who will carry top weight of 9st 10lb.

Hasten To Add (7st 13lb), on whom George Duffield is likely to put up a pound overweight, remains the clear favourite at 7-2 with William Hill and 4-1 with Ladbrokes from his Newcastle conqueror My Patriarch (Pat Eddery), eased out to 9-1 from 8-1 by Hills. John Lowe is expected to ride Irish Stamp.
