Henry Cecil's two St Leger hopes, Besieged and Memorise, worked well in a gallop after racing at Sandown on Saturday. The final Classic is on 13 September.
Along with the pacemaker Seattle Art, ridden by Tony Clark, Besieged (Willie Ryan) and Memorise (Warren O'Connor) covered a mile and three and a half furlongs. Seattle Art gave them a tow until the two-furlong marker where Besieged went on, but Memorise stuck with him well and Besieged had only a length to spare at the post.
Cecil said: "I am very pleased with that. The pair went a true gallop, as Seattle Art is a good horse. This is Besieged and Memorise's fourth piece of work; pre-Leger there will be three more.
"If Memorise does not run in the Leger he could go for the Troy Stakes, but I am satisfied with both of them."
