John Gosden blamed himself for the defeat of warm favourite Media Star at Goodwood yesterday. "I probably made a mistake by telling Olivier Peslier that the main race was the Cesarewitch and at the end of the day we have probably been a bit careful," the trainer said.

Georgia Venture held off Media Star by a neck. William Hill pushed Media Star out to 12-1 third favourite (from 10-1) for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in three weeks time. Gosden still shared a 62-1 treble with top French rider Peslier, however.

Dick Hern, who retires at the end of the season, clinched his 115th win at Goodwood with Khafaaq. The 76-year-old, reminiscing about past successes at Glorious Goodwood, said: "We used to stay by the seaside at West Wittering and if I won a race I would draw a picture of the horse in the sand."
