RICHARD DUNWOODY yesterday lodged his appeal against the six-day ban imposed for irresponsible riding at Newton Abbot on Monday. The champion jockey, on Kayfaat, was adjudged by the local stewards to have tightened up Kanooz - ridden by Peter Hobbs - and New Statesman (Sean Curran) on the bend after the sixth hurdle. The ban is set to run from 7-12 September.

But Hobbs said yesterday: 'Richard has been hard done by. The layout of the track is mainly to blame. They moved the rail to save some ground for the winter, and that made the bend more acute.'
