CHESTER

2.40: The cosy two-length margin of victory for SLASHER JACK at Edinburgh two weeks ago could well have been doubled, so a 3lb rise in the weights should not stop Steve Norton's gelding. First time out is proving the wrong time to back a Richard Hannon runner, so Art Tatum appears less of a danger than the unexposed Jabaroot.

3.10: HAWAJISS clocked one of the fastest speed figures by a juvenile last season when winning a Group race at Doncaster, only to disappoint at Ascot on softer ground next time. Her best run suggests she should prove superior to these opponents. State Crystal won on much softer ground last autumn and the form has not worked out well.

3.40: Four previous winners of the Chester Cup line up today, but they may have to make way for a fifth to join their ranks in the shape of ELAINE TULLY, who has improved over hurdles all winter and transferred that progress to the Flat last time out. The Cesarewitch winner Aahsaylad has been also been jumping, but without the same success. Ritto, second at Newmarket last autumn, returned impressively this spring, but has been raised 10lb and has yet to tackle fast ground.

4.10: EBONY BLAZE would not appear leniently treated for his first run in a handicap, but showed potential when sixth in a smart 15-runner field at Newmarket. Geoff Lewis, whose stable is running into form, will produce this gelding a lot sharper today. Brave Edge looks vulnerable under his penalty.
