CHESTER

2.10: WESTCOURT MAGIC knows where the winning line is on this course. His second course win was gained in the corresponding sprint 12 months ago and he pinged round the bends to make it number three in August, the same race he had won the previous season. Housed in the plum number one stall, he will be a popular choice with the locals.

2.40: THROUGH THE RYE has something to find with all of his six rivals, but he certainly looks the type to progress and shaped as if this trip may prove ideal for him when just run out of it late on in a good Kempton maiden race (over a furlong further) last time. None of the others can be ruled out, and Little Rock made a good impression when making it two from two at Sandown on his reappearance.

3.10: Sadian and Rokeby Bowl both performed admirably on their seasonal debuts, but are passed over in favour of SECRET SAVER, who has easily the most potential in this field. A big run was expected from him in the Group Three Gordon Richards Stakes on his return from a long lay-off, judged by the betting; fifth of nine might seem disappointing on the face of it, but Secret Saver stuck to his guns in a manner which suggested that the longer trip today will be the making of him. If he acts on the track, he must go close.

3.40: Back in October at Newmarket, John Dunlop had a 1-2 in the listed Marshall Stakes. The runner-up Generous Rosi has already won a Group Three at Sandown which has given a boost to the Newmarket winner GENEROUS LIBRA. With the added bonus of a recent run, over a trip too short for him, Generous Libra can surprise Chester House, who in theory should be a certainty in a Listed race after such good showings in Group One company.
