NORTHERN raider Island Magic took advantage of the lack of battle-readiness among the top juveniles to land a Group Three Solario Stakes for which just three runners turned out at Sandown yesterday.
But while Linda Ramsden's improving colt made the best of his way home, the favourite, Governor George, was unable to make the same use of wide open spaces. Lanfranco Dettori, his jockey, allowed himself to become trapped on the rail by the third runner, News And Echo, until well inside the final furlong and by the time the pair had won the war of nerves, the winner had flown.
