NAWAR emerged as a contender for the Triumph Hurdle when landing a gamble on his jumping debut for John Jenkins at Leicester yesterday.

The 5-2 favourite for the Ash Juvenile Novice Hurdle hit the front four flights from home to beat the highly rated Moorish by eight lengths.

Owner Jim Long said: 'We thought defeat was out of the question. Nawar ran only once on the flat in France and he won that, after which we bought him for a substantial sum from the Aga Khan. He'll go to Cheltenham and he's the one they all have to beat.'

Nawar will run next in the Summit Junior Hurdle at Lingfield on Saturday week.
