LIKE Steve McQueen before him, Adrian Maguire may soon discover that one great escape is not enough. The leader in the jump jockeys' title race seems to be heading for the barbed wire following yesterday's announcement that he may yet be punished for his ride on Ramstar at Warwick on Saturday, writes Richard Edmondson.

Despite raising his whip arm 29 times while partnering David Nicholson's gelding at the Midlands course, Maguire avoided punishment from the local stewards, a decision which will be discussed by the stewards of the Jockey Club at Portman Square tomorrow.

They will view camera patrol film and hear reports from the chairman of the Warwick panel as well as the stewards' secretary, before deciding if the case should be re-opened.

The general astonishment this incident has provoked and the swift reaction from the Jockey Club suggests Maguire may soon be on his way to racing's cooler.
