Racing: New Hill base

John Hill, the West Country trainer, has been granted permission to base his horses at Southwell racecourse during the all-weather season. He has left three of his string at the track, where he yesterday maintained his impressive strike-rate with his third success of the year. More will travel from Barnstaple next week. Hill, who sent out 10 winners at the course last year, is being allowed by the Jockey Club to base his horses there for six weeks at a time.
