DAVID NICHOLLS continued his midsummer spree with a 141-1 treble at Catterick yesterday. Jawhari was the most costly win for the bookmakers as he obliged at odds of 7-2 after being available in the morning at 14- 1. The Thirsk-based trainer was also on the mark with Sycamore Lodge, at 8-1, and rounded off the day in style as the 10-year-old Venture Capitalist came in at 5-2.

Jawhari opened at 6-1 on course but his backers, clearly undaunted by an absence of 281 days, continued to plunge on the gelding. Nicholls insisted he had not played a part in the gamble but said: "The owners had a few quid on - they knew I had faith in the horse." One of Jawhari's owners, Brian Hutchinson, said: "We all had a bit on, but the 14-1 had gone by the time we tried to get on."
