LESTER PIGGOTT'S mount, Linpac West, finished only third in the Listed pounds 13,730 Prix de Reux at Deauville yesterday, despite the absence of the fancied Richard Of York, who knocked his shoulder in the horsebox on the way to the course.
Richard Of York's withdrawal left just five runners and Regency, the 3-5 favourite, made every yard of the running to win by a short head from Jackdidi.
Linpac West, trained by Bill Elsey, tracked the winner until a furlong and a half from home. But when Piggott asked for his effort he hung into the rail before keeping on at the same pace to finish five lengths behind Regency.
