KENNETH CLARKE, the Home Secretary, underlined his personal commitment to Sunday racing yesterday and said he was convinced that it would become a reality, with full on-course and off-course betting.

Speaking at the Tote's annual lunch in London, he said he was sure that the necessary amendments to the Betting, Gaming and Lottery Act would be made, provided the Government could find parliamentary time.

Recent reports have suggested that deadlock in negotiations to secure the passage of the Sunday Trading Bill through the House of Commons could jeopardise the Sunday racing campaign.
