SYBILLIN, who belied his 'banker' status when finishing only third in the Festival's Arkle Trophy, may renew rivalry with that race's winner, Travado, on the first day of Aintree's Grand National meeting.

Jimmy FitzGerald's novice chaser, winner of the Victor Chandler Handicap Chase at Ascot in January, will be blood- tested before the trainer decides whether he is fit enough to contest either Thursday's Sandeman Novice Chase, or the Martell Aintree Chase two days later.

News is less encouraging of Sumoto, ante-post second favourite for the 1,000 Guineas until injury rumours surfaced last Friday. An X-ray has revealed a suspected stress fracture of her near hind leg, and Geoff Wragg's filly is now a very doubtful starter for the race at Newmarket on 29 April. 'There is every likelihood that Sumoto will be ready for Royal Ascot,' Wragg said.
