David Bridgwater broke his arm an hour before he was due to ride in the Grand National. The top jockey was operated on yesterday afternoon for a break above the elbow sustained when Time Won't Wait was brought down in the Red Rum Chase.

Bridgwater was dragged along for a few strides after the fall. Robert Parsons, his agent, said last night the jockey hoped to be transferred to a hospital near his Gloucestershire home. Mark Richards takes over the National ride on Bishops Hall.
