A mare carrying the foal of British great Frankel has been bought at auction by Godolphin owner Sheikh Mohammed for over £4m.

John Ferguson, the bloodstock advisor for Sheikh Mohammed, snapped up the five-year-old Dancing Rain at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in Newmarket. He said: "She is a jewel and you need jewels to breed champions."

Frankel was unbeaten in his 14-race career.
