Point-to-Point: Gundry can return with four-hand smash

Former champion Polly Gundry returns to action at Kilworthy, near Tavistock, today after injuring an ankle in the NH Chase at Cheltenham eight days ago and can mark her comeback with a four-timer.

Gundry takes four from her Ottery St Mary yard – Karley (1.05), Rockwithacaveman (2.15), Pendoun (3.25) and Kiama (4.00) – to the Devon course and will run and ride all four if the ground is not too testing.

Gundry, obviously delighted to be making such a quick return, explained: "I twisted my ankle when Here's Johnny made a mistake at the first fence at Cheltenham. At first I thought I had cracked a bone in my foot, but nothing showed up in the X-ray and I've been cleared to ride by the Jockey Club."

Rockwithacaveman is unbeaten in four runs, the form of the maiden that Pendoun won is working out well, Karley showed promise on only his second start and Kiama has won both starts, so it would not be long odds against Gundry adding another four to her 19 winners (seven ahead of nearest rival Rachael Green) this season.

Christy Beamish (2.20), a faller in last week's Cheltenham Foxhunter, will appreciate the return to the more forgiving fences between the flags in the ladies' open at the North Staffordshire at Sandon today.

His trainer, Paul Jones, said: "I don't think that Cheltenham suited him as he is much better going right-handed. He'll run in Scally Muire Ladies' Open at Sandon, before going to the Punchestown Festival."

One-time Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Murphy's Cardinal (2.15), once rated 147, has his first outing for three years in the men's open at Ston Easton. The 12-year-old is still trained by Noel Chance who hopes to qualify him for the Aintree Fox Hunters' Chase.
