Point-to-Point: Scare Lotte's luck to change at Horseheath
While some rain is generally welcome at this time of year you can have too much of a good thing and tomorrow's Old Surrey and Burstow at Penshurst, in Kent, is subject to a 2pm inspection today.
There are no reported problems elsewhere and there are good-sized entries at Horseheath today for the Puckeridge, which last year could muster only 30 runners. Scare Lotte (2.10) had a simple task in the Puckeridge members' race last season, but deserves a change of luck in today's ladies' open. He won his first two starts this spring and was then a close third, after being hampered, in a hunter chase at Huntingdon and was then taken farther than needed when by-passing a dolled-off fence when second at Godstone.
Racegoers should prepare for a likely marathon at Maismore Park, near Gloucester, tomorrow with 298 entries for eight races which could stretch to 12 if the restricted (53) and the three maidens (34 each) are divided.
The banker may be Gaelsbob (2.50) in the men's open as this doughty stayer, who showed he is just as effective going left-handed when winning at Siddington a fortnight ago, will relish the testing conditions.
