Stan Hey: 6-5 Against

It's almost time to kiss a fond farewell to the winter games. The jumps season ends today, a vintage campaign; and the Guinness Premiership sorts out its play-offs; relegation or promotion will be closer; while dropped points by Liverpool at Hull City will enable Manchester United to walk across the finishing line. Where to bet?

Leicester, five points clear, welcome relegated Bristol, so the bookies offer a market on the "regular season without Leicester". No deal. I don't like betting on "relegation" games because sporting livelihoods are at stake. No deal. Is there any juice left in the Premier League?

Liverpool can reach 86 points with five wins, so United might require 13 points out of 18. But could Spurs, beaten in the Carling Cup, extract revenge today? Could a desperate Middlesbrough inflict some pain? Will City lie down in the derby? Might Arsenal have a go in the penultimate game? And Sir Alex must juggle his squad around two Champions League ties. Liverpool are now 13-2 (Boylesports) to win the Premier League – deal, £10.

At Sandown the Bet 365 Gold Cup rounds off the jumps. If you think that trainer Paul Nicholls and jockey Ruby Walsh ease off, dream on – £10 win Hoo La Baloo (11-2 with the sponsors). And if you think top class jumping goes away, think on – next week it's the Punchestown Festival, subtitled the Guinness premier sip.

*It would have been better if they had been first and second but we got something back from Out the Black (5-1, place odds) and Chiaro (9-2) who finished third and fourth in the Scottish Grand National.
