The cold snap has done racing no favours with Saturday’s Betfair-sponsored Newbury card, shaping up to be a sizzler in the snow, called off.

Warwick went the same way so the fare is all on the all-weather, with jumping gurus hopeful that Ireland can showcase some high-quality National Hunt action at Naas, subject to a precautionary inspection (7.30am), with temperatures picking up markedly over the weekend.

Thankfully for punters, three Flat cards give us plenty to look forward to, racing right through from Lingfield's opening 11.45 into the nightcap at Wolverhampton at 8.15, with Chelmsford hosting a fixture in the middle.

The feature Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Handicap at Lingfield (2.00) has attracted just four and, given the pacy nature of the Surrey oval, this will be cat-and-mouse stuff. Cieren Fallon may try to call the shots up front aboard Twilight Heir, but, gelded since he last ran, he has a 125-day rest to overcome.

Water Of Leith and Secret Handsheikh come here on hat-trick bids, with Charlie Fellows bidding for a four-timer, though none of the trio's seven wins was at Lingfield. It's a tough one to call but Water Of Leith may be progressive enough for Jim Goldie at around 2.74 (7-4) on the Betfair exchange.

The opening Betway Apprentice Handicap (11.45) is a fascinating race. Benoit De La Sayette's 35 per cent strike-rate means that anything he rides attractions no shortage of attention, Moohareeba the teenager's only mount on the card.

This filly has a serious pedigree and overcame a messy pace under De La Sayette to win at Kempton. She looks to have Galahad Threepwood to beat.

Lammas looks the nap at 3.0 (2-1) in the Bombardier "March To Your Own Drum" Novice Stakes (12.20) for David Loughnane, who has had his share of near-misses of late. Luke Morris rides.

The BBA Ireland Limited Opera Hat Mares Chase (1.40) at Naas is a cracker and, though she's giving former Cheltenham winner Shattered Love 5lb, Elimay should be winning this over the minimum trip. However, her stablemate Yukon Lil, Paul Townend riding, appeals as the best value getting 12lbs at around 5.5 (9-2).

Tony Martin's hit-rate this season is nothing to boast about but Djasek can improve it in the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (3.25) at 7 (6-1). This horse was wildly eye-catching in second at Fairyhouse and looks very well-handicapped, Liam McKenna taking over today.
