Raza's Golden goal seals it
Ali Raza, Pakistan's full-back, made hockey history in the final of the Volvo Masters Four Nations Junior Tournament in Vught when he scored hockey's first Golden goal nine minutes into extra time to give Pakistan a well deserved 2-1 win against Germany.
The tournament, the first to be played under the new "no offside" experimental rules, had brought mixed results for England's men and women as they build up for the European Cups at the end of the month.
The women, who went down to the Dutch 2-0 in the final, never fully recovered from conceding a careless goal in the 13th minute with the Dutch getting their second as England went flat out for the equaliser.
The men had to settle for the wooden spoon following their 4-1 defeat by the Dutch despite an outstanding performance from the captain, Brett Gerrard. Once again there was the all too familiar failing of England sides in taking their chances.
