Adrian Spencer, who played in the final minutes for Cambridge in last week's University match, has forfeited his amateur status after it was revealed that he played three rugby league games last year for London Crusaders, now the Broncos. Spencer will beout of the game for at least a year even though he did not accept payment for his rugby league appearances. The 21-year-old third year under-graduate said: ``I suppose this is going to cause me some trouble. I played three games but received no payment.I do not want to be used as a pawn between the two codes."
Featherstone have signed the Batley scrum-half Glen Tomlinson but will have to wait until next season to play him. David Ward, the Rovers coach, has returned to his former club to pick up the Australian on an early season contract which gives Featherstone first claim on Tomlinson's services for 1995-96.
Bradford Northern have made a "substantial" offer for Wigan's international forward Neil Cowie. Cowie, 27, joined Wigan three years ago from Rochdale for £80,000 and signed a new two-year contract at the start of the season. Wigan's directors will discuss the approach at a board meeting today.
