Salford have signed Mike Edwards, the 23-year-old Welsh forward, from First Division Swinton, Warren Vickery, the 17-year-old forward from Widnes amateur club Appleton Park, and stand-off Gareth Jeans, 18, from Golborne Parkside.
A Rugby Football League tribunal have urged Oldham to accept a pounds 50,000 offer from Salford for David Bradbury, the Great Britain tourist. The Bears have been asking pounds 200,000.
The Australian club Hunter Mariners are looking into the possibility of setting up a Super League side in Glasgow. The Mariners have conducted a feasibility study in Scotland and their chief executive, Bob Ferres, said he was "excited" about the opportunity.
The battle for control of rugby league in Australia moved closer to resolution yesterday when Rupert Murdoch's rebel Super League clubs supported an Australian Rugby League peace plan for a unified competition in 1998. Although the details of the plan were not provided it is understood that the ARL had agreed to let Super League control the game's finances in return for the day-to-day running of the game.
